United Church of Christ
Worship is at the center of all we do at Old South. It's intimate and inclusive; expansive and celebratory. We utilize a blend of traditional and modern elements to help awaken our souls to the ever-present, unconditional love of The Holy. We worship each Sunday at 9:30 a.m in our sanctuary. ALL are welcome to celebrate communion with us the first Sunday of each month—even if you've been told otherwise at another church. Gluten-free wafers are available.
We take the Bible seriously, not literally.
At Old South, sermons are meant to be the beginning of the conversation, not the end. We engage Biblical texts in ways which are inspiring, challenging, and relevant to our context today. Our sermons explore the historical and cultural background of a scriptural text, examine the ways it currently speaks to our world, and help us to apply those insights to our own corners of the world.
Children and Youth Worship

Sunday School
Offered to children Pre-K through 6th Grade. We use a variety of activities and curricula to keep our Sunday School lessons engaging and educational.
Teen Discussion Class
Our teen discussions, for students in grades 7 through 12, thoughtfully reflect on Biblical passages to help us understand what it means to follow Jesus.
Confirmation
This program guides young people in exploring their faith, learning what it means to be part of a spiritual community, and deciding whether following the path of Jesus is right for them. Adult sponsors accompany each student in this journey of faith.
Service and Misisons
Old South students are responsible for the operation of the monthly Pancakery Cafe; from cooking, serving, and cleaning up.
Old South students in middle and high school work together on Coat & Cupboard to maintain a large, welcoming free “store” of warm coats, boots, hats and much more.
Adult Worship
Programs to deepen our faith, connect with new friends, and recognize God in our lives.
Chapel Conversations
Each Wednesday, adults gather to share soup and bread, and read together an essay that corresponds with the scripture reading for the upcoming Sunday morning worship service. The conversation that ensues is honest, open, and thoughtful; we respect and appreciate all viewpoints and understandings of God’s love as revealed in scripture.
Pastoral Care
Our lay visitation team assists the pastor by offering compassionate listening and caring companionship with members who are isolated, experiencing difficult circumstances, or in times of transition.
Bereavement Group
Those who are moving through grief or loss of any sort are invited to join this small group, which meets the first Friday of the month at 1 pm in the Newman Wing Chapel. This diverse group shares and supports each other through the complex struggle of grief.
Women's Retreat
Each autumn, the women in our community indulge in 1-2 days of rest, re-connection, celebration, and spiritual renewal. The retreat is designed to be as structured or unstructured as each woman needs.
